Hi Warbird, do you know the towing limit of your car. All Dandy's are braked. The lightest have a max weight fully loaded of 500kg or 10cwt. Unladen they are lighter.
1980 range catalogue shows unladen weights:
    Dart or 4 - 5cwt
    Delta or 4/5 - 5.5cwt
    Discovery or 5 - 6cwt
    Destiny or 6 - 8cwt

    1996 brochure shows ex works:
    Dart - 250kg
    Delta - 275kg
    Discovery 300kg

All give 2 double beds, the dart is 4berth, delta 4 + small child, Discovery/Designer 5 berth. Presumably there will only be 2 of you.

Is there an actual listed towing weight for your car.

It must be possible but you need to be sure of the numbers

Thanks for the welcome & the info, I thought it may be a 4/5 as there is room for the trailer triangle between the rear lights & the door frame. There are pictures of outfits with the triangle above the same lights as it wouldn't fit between the light & the door frame so I'm thinking those are the 4's. I hope I'm not wrong!! Shocked

750Kg is the kerb weight so it seems.

    My guess would be 4/5.

If the manufacturer's don't give any tow weights, can you legally tow in this country?

I don't see why not, I'm not going near the kerb weight of the car so I think its going to be OK. I'm having a look at the unit tomorrow & will do a test tow before I buy it, If the car feels strained then I will walk away.

looking for sizes & weights Empty Tow bar

    Post by warbird01uk Wed 14 May 2014, 4:09 pm

This is the tow bar, most of it is behind the plastic bodywork, electric socket is in the boot, I can't mount it on the bodywork as it removes for servicing the engine!

Woo Hoo! Picked it up today in Poole, the tub is just under 5' wide so I think that makes it a 4/5. Towed it back behind the Smart car, hardly knew it was there! kept an eye on the engine temp all the way back to Bristol, stayed in the normal so its not putting much extra strain on the engine.
Now starts the fun, I don't think I can live with the blue paint, will maybe go for cream or something like the car colour, then a full rewire as the wiring is terrible!

Cream would be a good colour for a Dandy tub or brown, they were never blue originally  looking for sizes & weights 184121345

I shall be looking for paint as close to the car colour today! (will not be metallic though!) not sure what I'm going to do with the blue cover though short of getting another made up in grey so as to look silver.

Just been to my local Awning repairers & they are going to make me a new trailer cover in light grey with two burgundy/brown stripes which should be a nearer match colour wise to the Smart car. Very Happy

It certainly was! but I've known Chris for years so I got 'mates rates!'

Now going through a colour change! (better than the Blue!) also a new trailer cover is being made for it in a light Grey.
