Dandy Tyres 5.20S10 Empty Dandy Tyres 5.20S10

Post by creativetux Mon 30 Jul 2012, 12:49 pm

    Hey campers,

I've spent most of the morning around my local tyre fitters, we have a small handful of them, none of them see to be able to help get hold of tyres for the camper.

They are marked as 5.20S10 4 P.R. so my question of the day is where have you got your tyres from?

I've one more to try this afternoon, a farm supplies kind of place that do tyres.

    Thanks

We took ours to the local tyre fitters who ordered them in and then fitted. Smile

I've found somewhere that can get 5.00 x 10's but not 5.20 Does anyone know if it will make a difference?

    Thanks

If nowhere else trailer tech have 5.00 tyres. see: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I think 5 10's are interchangeable for 5 20's check with a tyre fitter. Of course 145/R80 are the radial that Dandy later went to with the post 80's Dandys (on same size rim) 5's ride a little higher be careful whether you are buying Crossplys or Bias Belted as the same should be fitted as a spare. Careful also a Radial sized 145/80 is available as a 145/B80 B signifying bias belted. There should be a previous thread on this. Radials are the choice if you tour to France and want to tow at 81MPH as they are allowed.

    Hiya,

I've got some 145R10 Steel Belted Radial on a garden trailer that I'm going to try before making a purchase as I might need to modify the mudguards, I noticed the wheels aren't quite in the centre of them, see this pic:

My local trailer man at Warrington Trailers said that 5.20x10 were no longer available but 5.00x10 were OK as it's only 0.2" smaller and not significant. They also have the same load rating.

The wheel shown in the picture looks to have the wrong offset to fit the arch properly

Hi, I thought that, but all 3 are original wheels and tyres from factory, the spare even has the original sticker from the 80s on it, so it seems thats how it left the factory. Will see what the other wheels are like and maybe bring the guards out a little more when the rain stops!

We got tyres the same size as the ones on the above link for our 60's one, they were already fitter to new rims for £35 each. Probably not the best quality metal going, but they were cheaper than having new tyres supplied fitted and we were in a rush to make the trailer legal, we had about 2 days if I remember right.

Ours has also got the original flat rims, we've kept them so we can get them refurbished at some point, although one is currently used as a spare.

Your wheels look like mini wheels, which were fitted to many trailers in the past, including Dandies, I have a trailer fitted with them myself.

5.00x10 tyres would of course be slightly narrower and fit under the arch better,if they don't foul the outer rim of the arch I don't see any problem.
