I'm really surprised by you Helen have you no empathy or understanding?

What sort of condition must the person have been in to throw up paint. You wouldn't want them to try and keep it down would you?

Could have been far worse Kevin ...... at least it matches my plant pots and didn't get as far as the Dandy, luckily for us John returned from work around 11 last night and someone had blocked the drive so he ended up leaving the car on the street Very Happy

The worst has gone now and we're just left with some staining that will go with another round of power washing, there is still a bit outside on the pavement though.

Grunts - Groans - Moans - Page 14 Empty Re: Grunts - Groans - Moans

Post by Helen on Sun 22 Apr 2012, 9:04 pm

Had another rubbish day, after looking at several caravans on ebay we decided before we place a bit to go take a look. As I've not been too good we decided to look at ones that are within 10 miles and hey presto there was our ideal van so we called and asked if we could view this evening and would they remove it if we sorted out a price and paid a deposit. Not a cheap van at £3000 but after yesterday we decided it was worth paying for peace of mind. Anyhoo we managed to go and view with cash in pocket and the van looked lovely, went inside and couldn't decide if the floor was spongy with my dodgy foot so took another walk about concentrating on good foot and it was spongy, whispered to John to feel it too just to make sure it wasn't me Evil or Very Mad Why can't people be honest in the first place, lets face it your going to find out when you view or go to collect and it would save us all some time. It's a lovely van and could probably just be treated but when someone says no pets, no smokers and no damp or sponginess do they think you won't notice the two dogs snapping at your feet, the husband with fag hanging out of mouth and the soggy floor !!!!

I always had faith in the majority of sellers but think it may have gone altogether now.

Dealers charge more but you know what your getting.

Sorry to hear your troubles Helen, it must be very frustrating, but i'm sure the right unit is just around the corner for you.

My rant or rants, lol, are:-

We've just had a lovely weekend away with mostly nice weather and good company. The phone signal was only a weak gprs, slow but usable, unfortunately our fully charged power pack went flat on saturday, so I couldn't even charge my phone, this isn't really a problem unless you need it, like if you promised to email a friend over the weekend. Rolling Eyes

Got home to use the computer, it's says no net work, it said this last Thursday evening, I assumed it had ran out of credit or data, it renewed today, so why oh why does it still not work. That's another job for tomorrow.

So apologies, i'm not up to speed with the forum, i'll try my best to catch up on my phone but I only get 3g in the front garden and gprs in the house, so it will be either a slow or cold or wet catch up, lol!

Dealers more honest than average sellers, or just better versed at lying.

If you bought a caravan with a soft floor and injected the floor to make it solid it would still be worth less than a caravan that had never needed that treatment.
If YOU sold it you would tell someone.
What do you think a dealer who had treated a floor would do?

From one of the major dealers, it would be HPI checked and we would get a warranty......okay a small warranty but enough time to spot any problems.

At the big dealer near us they don't actually do anything to the vans until someone wants to buy, they then get checked over and valeted. We know this to be true because we had a look around them a few weeks ago and stood in a couple with a spongy floor, one with broken window hinges one with cracked window and one with a sliding bathroom door issue we asked about all of these and he said that they would see to any problems if we decided to purchase along with anything else they found doing the checks that they do and service before you collect the van, on collection they then go through the check list with you and tell you everything that they have found and done plus you get to look at the work to make sure your satisfied before you drive away. Our neighbour bought one from them and is happy with the service. The cost of peace of mind .......... around double what you would pay from a private seller Shocked

As for the one we saw yesterday, would I have bought it and had it treated .......... yes if they had told the truth.
The spongy floor could have been repaired but it always makes me wonder what else they aren't telling me. At least 2 other couples had also viewed it yesterday and had asked if they could buy it now, the reply was yes. Q&A at the bottom of the page shows this, I always read that bit Smile but as no one took it I think they probably felt just like us. Whoever wins it in the auction will be disappointed too.

For us the search goes on, two bad sellers in one weekend! we've never had this problem before and there are honest people out there so we will find what we want eventually.

They are bargaining chips Caz, but if I don't trust the seller any more because they've deliberately deceived (you only had to walk on floor to know it was spongy so they must have known) it puts me right off and where caravans are concerned it's buyers market at the moment so I would prefer to hand my cash over to an honest person.

There is no rush we have our Dandy, it's a little belter and costs us nothing to keep Very Happy We would use both units, the Dandy for any last minute trips because we can get away with not booking and pitching amongst tents plus we like to have a camp fire and sit out at nights and you don't really get that amongst the caravans. We would use the van for taking the grandchildren as we think it would be a bit of a nightmare trying to see to them and set the Dandy and awning up at the same time.

The green car, the one that won't start, and the garage can't fit it in to check the alternator until Thursday, now also has a broken windscreen. Evil or Very Mad

What have we done that is so bad to deserve this bad luck we're having.

1) Poorly dog
2) Defuncted power pack, which is just out of guarantee.
3) Watch stopped at weekend after I couldn't charge my phone. Evil or Very Mad
4) Green car's alternator has gone wrong.
5) Windscreen has broken.
6) Internet has stopped working due to a faulty sim.
7) Microwave knocked the ring main out, now won't work.
8 and 9) are two things I can't put here, lol. But involve me and hospital.

So that's 3 lots of 3, not just the normal 3. Anyone else have 3 lots of 3 as well? Evil or Very Mad

And the classic car has it's MOT tomorrow afternoon. affraid

That's true, good luck from now on. Firstly, as said, Bomff is home cheers cheers cheers

Just need the classic to pass it's MOT tomorrow and the camper to pass hers next month, or she will be laid up for a number of months.

The classic wants taxing this month also, but that is very affordable. lol!

I can't imagine you have not looked but re windscreen even some TPFT policies have deals or partial cover on windscreen breakage.

What vehicle is "The Green car" If it's not too frightfully modern with all the engine bay internals squeezed into no space at all. Then a good trawl and self fit can save a fortune. If you can find out the spec an alternator specialist or an eBay trawl is well worth while. can't say I've not used scrapyards but that was when alternators could be fitted in sub 20 min. Well that and replacing a Bosch dynamo on a Beetle when the price for a new Bosch dynamo was in three figures even as long ago as the early eighties.

Kevin, it's our newest car, the 1992 VW Passat. We do have fully comp insurance on it. The garage or car vets lol, are going to check everything over to get an exact diagnoses, the alternator fault is our thought.

We no longer have Bailey insured, we did have insurance for our old sheltie Cindy and also Beaux but when Cindy became poorly with Cushings the insurance excess was ridiculous every month ....... it's okay for younger dogs and works out good value at times but as they get older the price goes up and the excess becomes more and more, The same with Beaux, he was healthy until he was 14 and by then the excess was stupid. It probably makes more sense to put a bit away in an account solely for vet bills from when they are pups.

We've always chopped and changed his insurance to get the best deal. He no longer has his arthritis medicine on the insurance, the extra in premiums on the old insurance worked out more than the cost of his medicine. His current premium is £23 ish per month with an excess of £70 and 20% because hes over 10. But he is covered up to £7,000

In our case we have paid out less in dog insurance premiums compared to the cost of his claims, but he did have a massive claim in 2005. But I agree sometimes it can work out better to self insure, by putting some money away every month from when you first get a dog. But then I suppose that's how insurance companies work, some people claim, some don't need to, and of course you need to consider their many restrictions, it is a buyers market out there. Car insurance is a legal requirement, they've get us over a barrel on that one.

Did we need an insurance thread? lol!
