It's oh so quiet Empty It's oh so quiet

Post by Helen on Fri 14 Dec 2012, 5:37 pm

Could be that your all getting ready for Christmas or just that the dull, wet miserable weather means your not thinking much about Dandying at the moment but don't be strangers ...... it's nice to hear what everyone is up to even if it's not Dandy related. It's good to get to know everyone a little even before meeting. It breaks the ice a bit (bad pun) for when it's time to dust off the Dandy and once Christmas is over we're all going to be looking forward to more daylight hours which means it'll soon be spring cheers

We had a Christmas to forget some years ago, when we all had flu affraid affraid and all we ate on pale pale pale Christmas day was a ham sandwich each and if anyone felt up to it a glass of red wine or two, The whole day passed in a blur.
Today, I went to dig my Christmas potatoes, lovely new potatoes, they have been out of the ground for twenty five minutes already and guess what Im having for lunch today, Yes new potatoes and a lump of butter.
See I know how to live the life. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
Hope the weather is not too bad for you all

Yes Helen, there will be some for Christmas. I put in 15 seed potatoes in September. It's a bit like an advent calendar, I dig a few up when the weather is good. I have a couple of leeks and parsnips to collect as well. I looovvee Christmas food and this year I'm not working on boxing day either.
I have not tried Christmas Potatoes before and this years veg have been very disappointing but Next Year, I can't wait.
We are having goose for the first time.
Now all I have to do tomorrow, my day off, is:-
Decorations up,
cards sent/ delivered,
shop for presents for 7, one of whom says"I don't really need anything, just get something" and Another who has hinted about three hundred things since September.
Should do it in a couple of hours,( tongue firmly in cheek)
Hope you all are better prepared than this.

There is some advantage to being a miserable old sod like me,i buy no presents and want none,i send no cards and want none,we are having chicken casserole made in the slow cooker and kept in the freezer.
Nancy buys for her grand kids but thats all we buy, hopefully we will have 12 days of peace and quiet, although we do have a current family problem that could change that and yes i love christmas, the decorations and carols,i even get a warm feeling over it.

I have a similar philosophy to mike and Nancy, I think.
My grandmother believed that Christmas was for Children and for Santa Clause to find the children, no child would be away from home from Christmas Eve. So my children and grandchildren stay in their own homes for Christmas. Visiting done before and after Boxing day. I don't send Christmas cards, I give what I reckon it would cost me to the Salvation Army to help their work. I grow my veg and freeze for the Christmas period. I make him indoors a good beer. I make Christmas cake for each family and myself. I buy a good red wine for Chri drunken stmas day and I have a Christmas carol cd to play on the day. It's oh so quiet 2308263648 It's oh so quiet 1912976309 drunken It's oh so quiet 2607158912
Bring It On. I watch 'a christmas carol' if it's on and the queens speech.
Merry Christmas everyone.

I've still not written the cards ..... I bought them a while ago ....... last January lol!

My parents have written a small note in each Christmas card this year saying keep it because we won't be sending them again ..... the stamps cost over £20 because a lot of friends live overseas or far away and they would rather give the money to a charity too.

We only have a few friends we have to post to so it's not too bad plus as I buy my cards after Christmas it's not that expensive for us.
I agree with your family Essie and our children have always been at home for Christmas just as we were and our grandchildren will be, it is all about them and for a few years we lost the magic as our kids had grown but now we have grandchildren we have it back cheers

Merry Christmas to all of you santa

It's oh so quiet 2702329197 what can I say bit of a traumatic time here so have been off line for a while , friends mother when into hosp, then had builders ripping my house apart putting in new heating system in ,now too hot!! , got the nasty nora bug , friends mother lost her fight for life, decorated the hole house well say decorated most half done but trying to rearrange furniture back after builders now to move the rest to do the other half but now to close to Christmas will start again Boxing day as want it all to be done before the new year..Planning trip to Italy with my 6 to watch the Giro De Italia cycle race as the tour De France will be more expensive and busy so aim to go to Paris for the final party It's oh so quiet 2702329197
