Camping Appeal To Members

We thought it might be a good idea to get out a bit more and meet up a little more often in 2013

A few things have conspired to slow our plans down a bit

Mike and Helen our prime movers both have issues. It's known that Mike now has greater family commitments less well known is Helen is not always at her best and this affects her ability to camp. This isn't so widely known as she always puts her forum face on before typing on here.

So what are we going to do?

The original plan was that Woodhall and Trentfield were penned in. Well the plans changed a bit I'd not like to see Trentfield stall. It was planned for May ish but could be a moveable feast. I'm awaiting feedback from those who originally expressed an interest but if you're up for it do post on: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The Birthday Bash at Woodhall Spa has not changed and if interested you'll find details here
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If we were to look at a Christmas meet and 3 or 4 others spaced throughout the year that looks like a start for a programme for this year.

Now what are we to do where are we to go? Well why don't YOU tell us, we do definitely need your help to suggest places, do a small bit of organisation and for others to be a bit braver to be the first to sign up.
None of the moderators are too used to group camps and there was a hope that we would drop in on each other by way of the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] section. Well either some have been a bit shy posting or others shy at inviting themselves into someone else's party.
You could always and still can suggest a meeting anywhere and at any time but we do want 3 or 4 suggested in short order so we can plan for the year.
What do we want? Different things: Nice formal campsites of any size. Less formal campsites or pubs with camping maybe with less facilities but cheaper to camp at. Events! Do you regularly go to an event or know of a suitable steam rally, car show, air show, agricultural show or other. We want to get a reasonable geographic spread if we can. We want what you want.

What we don't want or can't do. We don't want to be a tag along or an economic support to someone else's camping group. We can only camp in an area or at an event licensed for camping. No matter how suitable or how generous the offer we can't use your uncles 10 acre apple orchard as we don't hold a "Certificate Of Exemption" that allows you to set up a site.
Also given that we don't do fundraising or have an expenses budget we would like fees to be paid to the campsite. This removes the possibility of arranging a block booking with the person booking gaining complementary camping. By having individual camps arranged by individuals this is also a reasonable burden. If you had arranged and attended 10 camps then your expenses may well be such that you could be reasonably expected to claim expenses.

The above is not blunt enough, what we really want.
We want You to suggest a meet state, or commonly agree to a weekend and host it
As these will all be on sites there is no financial commitment or need to physically arrange things to host. All that is required is to sell the virtues of your location then to charm or cajole us into being at the same place at the same time.
You think you might have half an idea but; you're nervous you don't know how much work it will entail, whether people would want to do this etc etc? PM Whichever of the moderators you feel most comfortable with and we'll get back to you or we will get a third person to help.
You don't want to suggest a site but there is something else you can offer.e.g. You don't work so you can often make the first day or the day before a camp to help host the event.
There shouldn't be a lot to organise we think meets are about meeting up not being forced into any games, events or fundraising so come on and help us set up this years camping. Look at last years photos no one was being beaten with sticks and some of us were daft enough to go to more than one event.

This is a forum of 600 members with 90 of them visiting within the last 2 weeks. A number of camps should be viable but we need your help to achieve this.

After first drafting this I wanted it re written as I didn't want it to read like my writings. Then upon re drafting and beginning to speak of Mike and Helen in the third person I realised that it was impossible.
This is the first forum statement with my name on the side.
I'm intimidated. I whitter frequently on tech ideas, maybe I expect people not to comment unless that particular issue affects them.
This is different, if we're all independent enough and we are all happy to just camp on our own or with friends that is great but if you have any thoughts of us camping as a group we need your input. Even if you are telling us that the ideas so far are wrong. We really do need your thoughts and help.

That's a good idea TI.

I understand many of the clubs have rallies organised by a member or small group of members. One member or small group organises one rally and this frequently gets repeated each year.

The rallies are proposed early in the year in a programme. People book the ones they want to do. If there aren't enough people for one to take place it's cancelled.

That spreads the workload and results in a more varied programme and venues.

Yes. All we need now are the organisers and the people keen to attend.

Has anyone got even the slightest interest in group camping. Not a lot happening here.
