We have been in curry's and noticed that they are selling a Sat Nav that you just put the dimensions of your trailer, motorhome or caravan into and it will calculate the best route according to these figures. That's a great idea but the price is a little high at £400

Mike I really could do with one, we have been up lanes totally unsuitable for towing and when my dad had a caravan, before the day's of Sat navs we ended up near low bridges and having to all get out of the car and unhitch then turn the caravan by hand. Now with the roof box on the car and it being high too, this would be good if it would let us know if we can fit under barriers or bridges. So stop laughing at me Victor lol!

Thankyou Kevin, that just proves the point nicely ha Sat Nav for towing 1208560806

Ouch. Glad I didn't say that.

    Dear All

    Unsuitable roads to tow.

I have taken a 125cc motorcycle and my previous trailer tent that was the size of a six both up and down this road.

Mind you it does have a sign at the beginning "Unsuitable For Caravans".

Sorry it's quite long the last two minutes give you the best idea of steepness and the sharpness of bends.

Cracking campsite at the end, just a bit far for a weekend.

Mike, you are a brave man lol!

Kevin that's a nightmare road for anything other than a motorbike and the sort of road we tend to get lost on in Wales, we have ended up with roads to nowhere, they just turn into a track with a stream in the middle and end up at the top of a mountain in a field. I have been hiding with my head in the glove box almost affraid

All joking aside this sounds like a good idea but if it catches on next year it will be half that price.

A little over a year ago Lucie treated us to an ipad (which has a built in GPS receiver - some do not have his facility) on which we have taken to using as a satnav with a free app called [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. This solution is pretty good (almost as good as a tomtom) at getting us to most places although on occasions the instructions aren't particularly clear at complicated junctions....my answer to this is "what do you want for free" and generally slow down to work out what I need to do.

We've set NavFree to its "RV/Lorry" setting which avoids most dodgy little roads - this might not take us the most direct route but it normally means we get to our destination stress free and in one piece.

The iPad is also used for a whole host of other things whilst we are away too, including levelling the Dandy, and surfing the 'net, and as we are in to walking keeping up with the weather forecast, etc. We do have a back up plans in place should should the iPad not work but this one device has proven to be very useful and hadn't let us down yet.

Jumping in as old misery guts here but whether real or virtual spirit levels can be out.
Level off the surface with the spirit level and turn the level 1800 around. This still works as a test for bulls eye levels.
    Most spirit levels fib.

What was this Satnav? I'm guessing its the TomTom for hgv's?
As I drive a wagon I use the Snooper S7000 Truckmate. Best bit of kit I ever bought for work, BUT, it does still stitch me up every now and then. No where near as much as the standard car satnav though.

I haven't used the tomtom truckmate yet, but I do MUCH prefer the TomTom mapping and software in general. But saying that, for £375 I have Freeview TV and a 7" screen on mine. I think the normal Snooper Truckmate comes in at around £299.

DO NOT be tempted to go for the cheaper alternative for £199. I think it's the Pronav. Halfords used to sell it. It was DREADFUL. I took it back after a week.
I have just looked at Halfords webby to check, and noticed they have a Snooper S2000 with caravan and motorhome for £289. Still steep though.

And as for them coming down in price, my S7000 is 2 years old, and they are still £375.
