Dee (wifey) and I are new to this forum but not the Dandy. We have had a Dandy 5 (1982) for a couple of years now have have thoroughly used it and abused it, from music festivals to travelling around Europe (a years tour). But, it will have to go soon though and be replaced by a 4/Dart or similar due to storage problems.

So, hello all and if you want to go touring then we may be able to help with some advice.

European tour photos featuring the Dandy would be nice. Not expecting this is the 5 at the top of the Eiffel Tower etc but even if it's just the differing hues of the photo processing of the time. Old tour photos are always good.

Ok then, I'll have a look at slapping up a quick description and the odd photo or two on the appropriate slot.

We're hoping to go Dandying further afield in future and would love to read about your adventures.

We're planning a relatively easy start in France and possibly Spain next year but thinking of heading eastwards through Europe in future years.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. I'm fairly new here myself but doubt you'll find a nicer bunch of folk anywhere.

Just to say Hello! Empty Travels

Post by nickdugs Sun 14 Apr 2013, 4:00 pm

    Hi peridot,

Setting of in July (2011), We took the route through southern europe during the winter and turned around in Turkey to take the northern countries in on the return, getting to north wales in Sept (2012). We took our time and worked for food/accommodation or food/parking space whichever was most convenient at the time.

So, insurance/breakdown/generals hints tips we should be able to cover for you.

Whatever satnav were you using! That's a long way round to North Wales from Conway.

It says a lot for a 29 year old Dandy to do a trip like that though. Did you have to replace much before you went such as suspension units, hubs, hitch etc. Did any of it fail on the way.

We originally got a Bonair pop-up but discovered that it was just too heavy! So, about a week before we set off we bought the Dandy from a chap in Bury, Lancs, put it up once and then set off. So, to answer your question, nothing was prepared and we just crissed our fingers and hoped for the best......
A couple of bits were replaced along the way but nothing major.

    Wait a week? Ah well.
