Dandy of the month May - Page 2 Empty More pics of the crazy roof rack, also while camping

    Post by dave42w Thu 12 Apr 2012, 1:57 pm

So here are a few more pictures from our summer holiday with our Dandy Designer.

Tow vehicle is a Berlingo Multispace (the 7 seater model). There were 6 of us plus fridge (our portable fridge does not fit inside the Dandy and anyway this way it is plugged into a cigarette lighter socket to keep the temperature down) in the car and a bike each on the Dandy.

Only 3 of us slept in the Dandy so we had 3 x 1 person pop-up tents for the others.

We had a week in the Loire not that far from Blois and then just over a week in the Vendee about 10 miles inland from the coast.

By putting the bikes on the Dandy we were able to stay below the medium height limit for the ferry (can't remember now whether it is 2.2 or 2.4 metres).

And yes we did have concerns with grounding at the back.

If you look closely you can see that the timber supports that are bolted underneath the back of the dandy are tapered and they have a metal strip around them. On the very first test drive these grounded on the speed hump 20 metres from our driveway. So I tapered them and put the metal strip on to protect the timber.

We were a bit worried about the ramps onto the ferry but in fact it all went smoothly. Probably helped by the car being heavily laden and so lowering the tow bar a bit (and hence raising the back of the Dandy a little).

Even laden like this the Dandy was totally stable when rushing home to the ferry at 70mph on the French motorway (just made it as the last vehicle on).

By the way the extra lighting board was due to being unable to get the right indicator and left side light working reliably

    Jamie.

    Truly excellent.
Are you in the market for a Scimitar as well?
If I came into some money a GTC would have to be considered.
They come in blue as well, wonder if Helen's interested.

Phoenix's is a genuine car owned by himself. The All Agro I featured is lifted from an eBay advert.

I was disappointed that the sellers other advert was a Sea Lord and not a Dawncraft Dandy
