I felt much the same as you, after being told by the hospital to inform the DVLA I decided only I knew how I felt and what I was capable of, it was only after a near miss a couple of weeks later I finally opened my eyes to the full implications and realised that the hospital was right as it wasn't just my safety at sake but my passengers, plus other drivers and even pedestrians. I know for me it was the right decision, the DVLA are in an unenviable position of making decisions that cause heartache but they have to consider what's best for the majority and I know if I had injured someone else it would haunt me for the rest of my days. We all learn to adapt to any situation eventually, doesn't mean we have to like it.
I'm not saying that the decisions made are always correct for anyone else either, only you know your own circumstances and how your affected, it's just that I can understand why they have to be so cautious.
