Dandy Trailer rebuild

Hello, my trailer is is a bad way I want to try and rebuild the outside of the trailer, everything else is is great condition but i have no idea how to go about this, any help would be greatful x

What Dandy do you have. What size is it, has it wooden or plastic sides on the tub?
Is the chassis OK? How far do you want to go with your rebuild? Anything is possible.

I's a Green 1960s 4 berth chassis is fine but the lag holds are completely gone too. Its wooden sides which is almost completely rotted away.

I just want to make the outside look presentable, it looks awful

That looks fab! i'ts getting the whole thing apart thats worrying me lol and where i'd get the leg holders and things from. It does need new legs too but they're not much of a problem because i can prop them on bricks lol

This is what we did so any questions just ask.

Do you have space to take the top off and store etc, and are you handy diy wise?

The leg holders and legs are just made out of box section steel. If you can weld or know a man / woman that can they are no problem.

Actually I did the hard work and sat inside all cozy with a glass of wine while making the video ..... Mark and Jen only rebuilt the Dandy

I'm very good at DIY do everything myself but my Dandy is stored at my mother in laws so would have to near enough get it done in a day lol

You will be pushing it to do it in a day!!!!

In all it took us about 2 months to do what we did. We were not doing it for those 2 months solidly, we did go to work as well.

If you are just going to do the sides and use Phenolic ply (it isn't cheap) you could probably re do them in a 2 or 3 days. Things never go to plan though.

We would have used Phenolic ply but had already gone the route of staining and varnishing ply with Bonda marine wood seal before we found out what was originally used.

I need to so it as cheaply as possible, the other half isn't happy with spending money on it at all...he prefers a tent to the Dandy but i love the old thing it's usable at the minute and we're going away at the end of May so will leave it til we come back x

Photos of your unit while you are away?

Not to wish the worst on you but hope it slashes down at leaving time. See how he would feel about colapsing a wet tent and drying it out afterwards.

we went away last summer in a tent because i didnt have a tow bar and we ended up having to pack away in gale force winds and storms and it doesnt bother him 1 little bit

Just take the dandy for you and let him sleep outside in the rain, no tent.

Here are Mike's instructions to add photos.


Across the top of the reply box you will see a row of icons
run your curser across until it displays host an image
click that and a box should open saying upload image
click browse
find the picture on your computer
double click the picture
it should then show the url next to browse
click host it
you will then have 3 boxes
thumbnail ignore this
image this is the one you want
image url ignore this one
click the image one it should turn blue
then right click it and select copy
then paste this in your post
at the bottom of the box is upload click this
when the box changes back to the first box you can click the host an image icon again and it will close the box,or you can go through the process again to upload more images
if you want to click preview it will show your post with images
then click send.


Simples.

As you can see the trailer is in a pretty bad way....its very annoying because the tent itself and the inside are in brilliant condition

Phoenix was just as bad as that and her top was fine as well.

Its going to take more than a weekend though. When are you starting.

going to leave it until we come back from holiday at the end of may, that way there's no rushing it it's just i have no idea where to get any of the panels or edging from. is it a costly job?

If you want to put her back to Original the sides are phenolic ply which isn't cheap, but you could use marine ply and paint it or stain it. We stained ours and then gave it a protective coating. The ally trims on the corners you can clean and reuse, remove them carefully by drilling the rivet heads off. We got our trim for the bottom edge from a local plastic window supplier, for 5 meters it was less than a tenner from memory.

All in all we probably spent between £400 & £500 doing Phoenix including tyres etc.
