Re: finally got to try out my dandy
Looks lovely. I think many write off the brown Dandys I don't know if it's the age or thinking the colour is drab. Yours goes to show how lovely they can look. N.B. Prospective buyers there is a fully insulated brown Dandy for sale at the moment.
Directions on the "roof rack" construction would be interesting.
Nice gas box someone made. Are the black circles on each side access ports? Not hiding a plumbed in Gaslow Cylinder in there are you?
Phoenix. Yes roof racks seem a great idea but remember the maximum weights. I could happily have a 700Kg Dandy

Re: finally got to try out my dandy
tow itch the roofrack is as far as i can tell a standard one piece van rack with the legs fabricated to be able to slide into brackets at the top of the tent legs. the black holes on the gas box are just painted on.
mike they are certainly bright.

Re: finally got to try out my dandy
I've just noticed the kettle ...... I love that shaped Kettle, up to now we've had a blue one (came with the Dandy) a cream one (managed to melt the handle just where it joined the kettle because the grill was also on) and we now have a lovely red one just like yours, we like them because they pour so well as there is no lip around the pouring spout ...... they look funky too and have a lovely whistle ..... it's not the same camping without hearing a kettle whistle

Re: finally got to try out my dandy
The rig really does look organised and snug. I defy anyone to get an ordinary tent looking anywhere near as comfortable. The roof rack also looks the part and although I know that you have to be weight conscious, it' s good to have somewhere to lash extra gear to. There' only so much that you can get under the cover.

Re: finally got to try out my dandy
Is the TV aerial mast just stuck in the ground at the bottom and tied to the roof poles at the top? Does it turn when the wind blows or is there something stopping it turning?
I have a jockey wheel clamp at the bottom but it might be better used with a peg stuck through it to stop it turning and tie the top end like you. I think it will wave about in the wind.

Re: finally got to try out my dandy
aerial is not fixed at the top just jockey wheel clamp and ground spike, the aerial is a tight fit on the mast so does not turn unless i release the jockey wheel clamp and turn the mast manually.
