Are you holding out for anything specific? Underfloor heating or insulation? Are you looking at an older 6 or one of the Light Blue ones? Desperately need one with an awning or not bothered? The more you can tell us the more likely it is someone will refer something suitable on.

I would like an older Dandy 6 as the newer Destiny's are out of my price range, I'm not too bothered if it has an awning or not as I could always get an awning later and I don't really have any specific's either all I know it is 6 that I want.

Money is the major question then. I'd try to hold out for a heater as they allow the use of cheaper i.e. non ehu sites and an awning might not make the Dandy that more expensive. Browns can be very cheap. Try to look at a few as at that age they can be variable.
Look out for the odd few with 2 non opening windows. Some might not have gas struts on the side walls. The struts do ease raising the sides. Keep looking on Freeads, Friday Ads, Loot and anything you can think of, nothing suitable on UK Campsite at the moment they're often cheap there. Don't just do eBay, Gumtree and preloved.
    Best of luck.
The more you look at the more you will see possible faults.

    Had a few quick thoughts:
Only one pld 6 made more than £500.00 on eBay in months. There was even one with no offers on a start price of £250. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Do try to view a few Dandys for a couple pounds more or even less money the variation in condition can be massive.

One or two might have 10" wheels not 12". Harder to push, slightly less ground clearance and more expensive heavy duty tyres required. Standard 10" tyres are NOT rated to 750Kg.

Read as much of the site as you can, especially read Mikes guide to buying a Dandy. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]  I'd add. "Look at the tyres" if one or both has uneven wear and the inside of the tyre is worn more it is a sign that the suspension arm may be beginning to twist. this would require new suspension units.

Beyond the serious, I see you are keen to modify so do look at Caz 1960's posts (Caz Numbers) the pictures of most interest are on her thread about this years Giro DItalia [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] just sxroll down a bit. I don't think these pictures do her 70's wallpaper full justice. The outside you will see elsewhere but that was the previous owners doing. When or if you find the pictures you will see that the previous owner would have had problems selling outside Wales.

I went to Riva Dandy only to look at Dandy's as I had not actually been inside one and when we got there, there just happened to be a 1988 Dandy 6 outside! So I bought it, I did pay more than I initially thought about paying for one but it is fully winterised, it has under floor heating, awning, skirts, gas struts and it is in perfect condition, my father in law came with me to pick it u and cannot believe how good a condition it is in. Also the man at Riva Dandy told me about 6 Dandy's this year that have been stolen and sold on ebay so at least I know that the one I have bought is a good one.

I said before about wanting to do a Dandy up inside but the condition is so good I might just leave it as it is, I have just bought a extra large cover to try and keep it protected as best as I can over the winter.
It is true the Dandy 6 that I was gazumpted on was not meant to be!

I know not if Ian has more knowledge than us about stolen Dandys on eBay. I thought at first you had written a 6 stolen rather than 6 stolen. The only one we know of that was advertised was this one  http://www.dandycampers.org/t2219-stolen-dandy-recovered?highlight=Stolen

Yes it might be more than you intended to pay but if it's right and I would believe that it would be if Ian is sold it you could well have 30 years or more left in this so £100.00 or £200.00 more than intended is not much if compared against a new folding camper. The new camper might look a bit more flash but not be as comfortable, only have half the life of your Dandy and cost 10 to 13 times as much or more. Come on how much was it?

The ad says gas struts on the bed but I assume this is just to show the extras. I presume that it has the struts on the front and back walls as well.

That has got to be one of the best 6s around plus it has all the extras, awning, gas strut beds, heater, insulated walls, skirts. It is all about condition at that age and it looks perfect. To top it all the 6s are so roomy yet still light and easy to tow. I'd have done the same. Well done.

Well part of me thinks that is quite a price for an eighties 6 that might struggle to fetch £700.00 to £800.00 if sold privately. Then again it's only two years older than a Light Blue 6 that might well make £1,200.00 or more as a private sale. It has all the best goodies (insulated, heater and bed struts) you didn't buy it in a private sale you bought it off Ian and any commercial undertaking needs to make a profit. Also you have not spent months looking at various Dandys and burning £100's in petrol.

Best of luck with your purchase.

As it's insulated it's perfectly reasonable to go camping now.

Condition is far more important than age, with Dandy's it's just a number DANDY 6 WANTED 184121345 that's a mighty fine looking Dandy and the condition looks and sounds fantastic. DANDY 6 WANTED 1428739134 I've seen some older Dandy's in far better condition than newer one's I've looked at DANDY 6 WANTED 3498837457 I particularly like the shock on peoples faces when we tell them how old our Dandy is and I'm sure you'll get the same reaction with yours Twisted Evil

We did the same as you, went just to look and ended up falling in love and buying. Yes you do pay a bit more buying from Riva but we've had no problem with ours. We might have bought cheaper on ebay but we could have ended up with one needing work we weren't equipped to do. We 've had a great time with our delta this year and certainly reckon it was worth every penny. Enjoy.

Ian told me that light blue ran from 1987 to 2003. This ones '88.

I bought mine from Ian as well and paid 4K for a dark blue designer but it did have a lot of extras which we really wanted.

I think it's good to support Ian because dandies will drop in price if he stops trading and he is always very willing to help anyone with a dandy.

I won't be going away until the spring time now but already I can't wait, we have upgraded from a tent so we are looking forward to getting away more than we have before due to the weather and being in a tent!
I have bought an extra large cover to try and keep it better protected through the winter as it is stored outside and also I have seen some kind of wheel block things on the internet that are supposed to help protect the tyres over winter, does anyone know if they are any good or shall I save my money?

The curved wheel chocks are meant to distribute the weight of the vehicle/trailer over a greater area of the tyre to avoid concentrating it into a small patch where it could give the tyre an off-balance 'set'. If you don't expect to move the Dandy during its Winter storage period it's better to remove the wheels completely and store them in a dark place where the UV can't degrade them. The Dandy would be just as happy with a couple of large chocks of timber under the drums as it would be on its road wheels. It would also less likely to be stolen!
