    Repairs Trip Empty Repairs Trip

Post by The Admiral Sat 14 Jan 2012, 4:44 pm

We have been emptying Minnie out today as next Saturday we are taking her up to Ian at Riva to get some repairs done. We are having new bed boards and a new side board at the permanent bed end plus a little bit of welding done and one or two other bits and pieces.

I dare say a lot of you on here could have done that sort of thing yourselves, Very Happy but doing new covers, curtains, & floor and a little bit of riveting is probably at the limit of our DIY skills so we thought we'd get this done properly as the previous owners had made a complete bodge job of putting new boards in which is why it needs doing again.

It was nice to see Minnie again as we haven't had her out since the Trentfield meet, and she was fine, I would probably have put off taking her up to Wigan until March when the weather is a bit more reliable but we've having to do it now before Nigel has the operation on his wrist and can still drive!

You should camp out in her, there is a campsite in Wigan so perhaps when you go to collect her Very Happy

Nigel is probably going to have to collect her on his own on the 28th as I'm having my hair done then before our annual trip to Bournemouth for the Starfleet Ball.

Minnie has been safely delivered to Ian at Riva, although it was a little scary on the way up there due to the high winds. We explained to him what we needed doing and he quoted us an approximate price that seemed very reasonable. Hopefully she should be ready for next Saturday and Nigel can go back and pick her up and then she'll be already to go for the season.

Nigel has just left to collect Minnie as all her repair work is complete Repairs Trip 1710857839 Very reasonable price too, we'd certainly take her back to Ian if we decide to get any more work done in the future - lovely bloke and very, very knowledgeable.

Minnie is safely back from Wigan, Nigel says Ian has done a cracking job, including moving the gas struts as someone had put them on in the wrong place, so that's probably why he said that one of them had sheared off and she wasnt closing properly! It will be interesting to see if they do work better this year.

He also said the bed board bases were way to thick, and he's done a lot more welding than we had asked for, painted the wheels and re rivetted everything, replaced the trim and done all the other fidlly little jobs we had asked him to do all for £364 which I think is a really excellent price.

It's just a shame now that we won't be able to take her out until the BH in June because of Nigel's wrist operation!
