Re: Halfords camping add
Mike
This has received so much comment on so many sites.
The clever bit is the utilisation of the modern and 70's in each clip.
One does have to be aware of sentimentality as we get older but an absolutely cracking ad.
Oh that the C&CC or the Caravan Club had done this to promote camping.
No they wouldn't because it doesn't fit their increasingly commercial ethos.
Love the advert hate the product.
Remember If You Shop At Halfords You Have Too Much Money
Love the you tube comments:
Even liked the modded Christmas ad tacked on.

Being a kid in the 70's was just brilliant......we had very little'' but we had so much....where did it all go wrong.......i wouldn't swap what i had then....to be a kid in today's world......they have everything and nothing......cool advert'' great music....and happy days.
What a cracking advert. Kids having fun in the countryside. Fantastic song.
And then the good old UK 'elf and safety’ police get a look at it. Kids camping without certified adult watching their every move. Cycling without helmets. Usage of deadly weapons (catapults). Climbing, swinging and hanging from trees. Getting wet. Basically, kids being kids like I was
Ahoy! ahoy! land, sea and sky
Ahoy! ahoy! boy, man and soldier
Ahoy! ahoy! deceived and then punctured
Ahoy! ahoy! long may they die
Errm...and the connection with sparkplugs and pushbikes is...?
Even liked the modded Christmas ad tacked on.

Re: Halfords camping add
I cautioned against sentimentality but are you people soulless?
This ad has mesmerised people on any other forum where it was mentioned.
I think there is definitely a 70's and 80's mix but so many items and subtleties I'd forgot.
Watched this ad n number of times.
Caught myself out at being a softy again.

Re: Halfords camping add
First time I've seen it and it brings back memories, my dads playing cards often had a few missing as there were 3 of us and we all had bikes but once he hid the new set of cards and threw the others away (there were battered bits of playing cards all over the street) we managed very well with twigs to make the same sound. There's a short clip of the old 'clackers' in there, I had a set and mine were green too. They were eventually banned due to kids breaking wrists

Re: Halfords camping add
Argh.... loved the advert not the product. Din't realise we were buying into all Halfords' Ads.
My fault for adding a second one I suppose.
This is the trade view of what your buying into.

Re: Halfords camping add
i must admit i rarely go to halfords unless i'm specifically in need of stuff only they have.
not because i have a problem with halfords but because they are generally expensive and i'm too cheap lol ( be very careful what you say next mike )
