    Mike

Go on. Whats the thing with the first dock gates photo?

Dock gates only work compressed by the water pressure.

    What are the other gates?

    Kevin.

I know as first boat I ever worked on was without a bow at more than 4" above the water line as he had run the boat into Bromborough Dock gates.

The bow was 3/4" or 1" steel gates tend to be tough.

Whats the thing floating in the second photo?

    Kevin.

I am probably being a bit thick but on the second photo isn't that something at the forefront of the photo - Possibly over the top of the water could be a handle of some description stuck out and not actually in the water Shocked

    Nick and Helen.

Yes on one level it looks like the rear of the gates that you push to open them!

In that case what is it doing in or above the lock?

On the other hand WTF do I know. I was unpaid crewe to the guy who ran his own boat into Bromborough Dock Gates.

I'm obviously not that good on nautical features.

Vicky, are river and canal navigations nautical?

    Kevin.

    Kevin,
check out the Shadow in the 2nd pic,i think this could suggest the beam or whatever it is,is over land although i suppose it depends on the position of the sun?I think Mike needs to wake up and answer your queries as i am getting confused now, which is not hard.

Could just be an illusion Kevin or as Nick says the camera angle. When we go to the meet we could always go and take a look Wink
