Lots of people use fabric conditioner (the cheaper brands) - a lot cheaper, it's environmentally friendly and smells lovely too Very Happy

We've taken to using normal toilet cleaner in the bottom, it seems to work ok and it's cheaper, but it's not good for the seals - the rubber ones not the sea ones, but there gain.

But as ours is well old, we thought it didn't really matter now. What a Face

We bought a bottle of something similar that doe's both the top and bottom ...... thought one bottle of stuff would be easier to cart than two, it was okay but was a greyish green colour and didn't smell that great either. Shocked

We now take the two bottles and have a lovely pink flush that smells all flowery flower

Tip though is to leave the big bottles at home and just fill a couple of small drinks bottles, you can't get them mixed up as one is blue and one is pink ..... just keep them in the front box so no one mistakes what they are Very Happy

    Hi all.

We use the proper 'blue' in the bottom, in the flush we just use a cap full of concentrated Zoflora.

We use the blue stuff bought from a caravan place. Can be used in flush and in the waste tank. Only a small bottle, but you only need small amounts as it's very concentrated.

We recently stayed on a site with no toilet facilities, so number 1's AND 2's required in the Dandy I'm afraid. Didn't have any bad smells though I'm glad to say. That is after the immidiate aftermath had calmed down lol. There were 4 of us using it too. Even on emptying, it wasn't too bad.

As a newbie to camping, where do you empty your toilets?  Are there facilities at campsites or do you have to take them home and empty them there?Toilet Chemicals 3870488038Toilet Chemicals 3870488038

If you are camping on a site then there should be (will be) what is known in Britain as an Elsan disposal point. Elsan was an early brand of chemical for camping toilets.

If you are camping at a friends don't just pour the contents down the toilet if they have a septic tank apparently the chemicals in the "proper" additive do the bacteria in the tank no good at all.
If you are going to be discharging into a septic tank a drop of something nice smelling in the flush water like fabric conditioner is OK but not a disinfectant. The waste tank will be adequately dealt with by a scoop of biological washing powder. Apparently this is all some people use. I got this tip of a motorhome wild camping forum where they do tend to need to use their chemical loos.

Have you seen what fairy liquid in the toilet does?

Cling film over the top's good too. Definitely keeps the smell in.

No it's what they do at parties. Fairy liquid just froth everywhere when you flush. Cling film needs no explanation, but when they've had a few, in poor light & don't notice......

If they do notice this is what they look like

I like the pink flush, it has a pleasant smell ........ we need some more as we finished the bottle in the Dandy last weekend, it lasted for a long time. We have some top & tail that's green but the smell isn't very pleasing so we just put it in the bottom part.
