Bringing Dandy Home

We are spending £40 a month on a garage for our Dandy and need to make cuts.

We can fit it in the front garden but want it to be safe, any suggestions on securing it?

Hitch lock if you've not already got one, we also have a lock on our gate so only one drive gate can be opened without the key meaning the Dandy won't fit through. We also decided to use a chain from the A Frame to one of the metal carport posts but in all honesty that's a bit of a pain for when we want to get into the garage. Ours has been living on the drive for the past 18 months but we hope to get it back into the garage in spring so the chain can stay for now. If it's going in the garden you may find more peace of mind by fitting some sort of fixing that you can improvise with.

Insure your Dandy too ..... it sounds like we live in a dodgy area but we don't, we did have a BMW taken by professionals many moons ago so perhaps a little paranoia has set in.

I have the normal hitch lock but thats not a lot of good a thief would just chain to the tow bar of a vehicle,so we have a wheel clamp,you have to make sure it fits your wheel size.

When we first had Minnie we kept her on the drive and had a hitch lock and wheel clamp and she was fully insured. In fact having both forms of security was a condition of the insurance. If you do get a wheel clamp make sure that you get one that covers all the wheel nuts as not all of them do!

We have a hitch lock in which ever one is at the front of the queue.
They are then blocked in by one vehicle or another.

If they were going to be vulnerable for some reason or another we would chock them up and take the wheels off and lock the wheels in the garage. Most opportunists don't come equipped with a jack and a couple of wheels that might fit.

That is actually a brilliant suggestion especially about the wheels as it appears wheels that fit dandys are like hens teeth in some parts

I agree that taking the wheels off is the best also razor wire ,claymores,search lights etc after seeing the video of the chaps stealing the caravan with hitch-lock and wheel clamps was a shocker

Apparently winter wheels can be a problem with some insurance companies but always seem a brilliant idea to me.

Has anyone actually had their Dandy stolen? I thought they went for high value twin axle caravans

There was someone a couple of years ago had one stolen, my friends also had a folding camper (not dandy) stolen from the drive. It's sad but anything of any value no matter how much or little is at risk.
