    Dandy types? Empty Dandy types?

    Post by 249ccjames Thu 02 Feb 2012, 1:37 pm

I'm actively looking for a Dandy and trying to get an idea of the different models and their features. Can someone do quick sketches of what you get with the Dart, Delta ,Designer , Discovery, Destiny, Dimension. It might be a really good facet or something to watch out for.
Many thanks and if you know of one prospectively for sale please let me know. I'm looking on ebay and Preloved.

I don't know if your tending to think towards an older or newer Dandy but might I suggest going to look at the opposite of what you think you want.
There's an oldish one knocking around in St Helens and a light blue one Oldham ish way.
While it's time wasting to a degree you will only be aware of the good and bad by seeing as many as possible. If your looking at what you don't want you wont be tempted to buy. Also don't know if you will be camping on your tod or with the (in)/significant other. Awnings though smaller are easier to erect on the older (green, orange, early brown) ones.
eBay and Preloved are fine but try as many other options as possible Gumtree, Loot, Freeads, Fridayads(?), Craigslist(not any where they offer to transport it to you {scam}) and anything else you know. I'm eternally grateful to Mike for bringing to my attention an advert in UK Campsites where I gained an absolute steal.

    Dandy types? Empty Dandy search

    Post by 249ccjames Fri 03 Feb 2012, 11:09 am

Thanks to everyone for the great welcome, and good advice.

Owd Lad for pointing out Riva sales which is 5 miles from me--I visit shortly.

Tow Itch: If I've got the same St Helens one that's the sort of thing that would suit me--to start with anyway--but he offers to rent as well and fobs me off when I ask to see it. Also offers to rent so may prefer a regular earner. Gumtree etc will be looked at.

One in Manchester maybe the Oldhamish one as blue white but at £1600 out of my budget currently.

For something suitable for me, primarily for one, any age under £900 I am prepared to travel.

Thanks Mike, Helen, Cazz and Vickoir for other tips and welcome.

The ones you referred to were the ones I was thinking of but are these listed in Gumtree of any interest?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
If they are and you PM me I'll even arrange a day out to look at them with you If your interested. Get the benefit of my considerable lack of knowledge.
I said about looking at other sites but also remember:
Dandies are generally posted as Dandy Folding Campers or Dandy Trailer Tents. Hence search Dandy Campers and Dandy Tents you do get different results. Also not everyone knows what they have so search Folding Campers and Trailer Tents. So you don't get 28,000 items listed as Trailer Tents search "Trailer Tents" in parentheses then your only looking at 200 or so.

Tow Itch--sounds good. I'm off to one in Oldham right now. Long shot that you are around but could you look at with me at weekend (even today)?
    I'm on 07973 303943.
I'll keep this open for five minutes before I drive off--about 1 hours drive from Skelmersdale.
    Cheers

    Hi Kevin,
I have seen the Oldham item and it's orange at £400, and it's probably a 4.
I have said I will go back at the weekend so need to arrange with you times, when convenient. I didn't get your telephone number, but if you ring 07973 303943 I'll call you back.
I managed to speak to the chap in St Helens and he has withdrawn his orange because work needs to be done.
    Cheers

Dandy types? Empty Oldham for DIY type

    Post by 249ccjames Sat 04 Feb 2012, 9:56 pm

    Hi Helen,
Many thanks for info on price. The £400 originally quoted by Lee (chap in Chadderton Oldham) on Gumtree was revised to me on Friday to £200. That's why I went back over there with Kevin in tow for an expert view. It would be too much for me but for someone with a garage and a bit of time it's a steal. I saw it when it was up and could not see any tears in the pvc, but Kevin found the defects in the woodwork which were apparent when it was down.
All good for my learning curve.
    Cheers
    John

Well we got it home, John got wet through checking underneath and although the bed bracket has rotted the chassis is sound. It will need the bottom of the door sorting and the side panels but everything else is great, had electrics fitted, and inside is lovely. Pleasantly surprised Very Happy
