I am Richard and I convert Dandies into specialist campers for Tetraplegic people and wheelchair users.
Because Dandies are SPECIAL they are the only ones I use. We actually replace the chassis with a lowering mechanism which lowers the chassis by ten inches onto the ground to allow easy access with a short shallow ramp. Otherwise,by law, a 13 foot ramp is needed which is impossible to use. We also widen the door to over 70cm and we modify the kitchen so it is light to move. We fit gas struts and motormovers also to allow them to be moved and used by very small or disabled people.
I am always looking for good Dandies to buy and convert. They go to a good, special new owner. I have some pictures of our unique conversion if anyone is interested in seeing them.
Certainly a unique characteristic of the Dandy is it's metal chassis and frame. Others (and I have tried!) do not hold a candle to them.
If anyone knows of one for sale PLEASE email me as we are completely out at the moment.
The converted Dandy 'Dalek Transformers' certainly allow a biker who's life has been shattered to get back to life remotely as he/she knew it before.
    Best wishes Richard

Welcome to the forum Richard, think I have seen converted Dandys and you do a very good job. We keep an eye out for Dandy's for sale to bring them to the attention of our members and because we are nuts about Dandy's.

    Hello Richard

I've referred or linked to you a couple of times not least because your cheaper than Riva with regards to fitting gas struts.
I also mentioned you to someone in respect to dandy rental to asses whether a Dandy was their thing.
It doesn't relate to me personally but as you don't use awnings on your conversions and awnings are always in demand from members might you consider offering them up via this site when you have them available?

I certainly will do. If I get an awning I will offer it.

Richard a question, something i have been trying to think round for a while, could struts be fitted to the walls of the 4/5 berth range to help with single handed erection, not any thing i need as we have a six but i know some people struggle on there own.

Richard, You say you fit motor movers. I didn't realise it was a viable option for the likes of a Dandy, like our Designer. I can't say I could promise you a job fitting one, but, as one of many with a long, awkward, steep, gravel drive, I'd love to hear more about what's involved, cost etc. I hate the smell of burning clutch!

Steve i have a feeling its only possible due to the work on the chassis he does but would be interesting to see.

Mike, that was my understanding. That is, that the way the chassis was put together negated the fitting of a motor mover but all things must be possible.
It would be a seriously useful bit of kit, certainly for us, but I fear the down side of the extra weight of mover plus battery and possible reduction in clearance underneath, plus expence, would make it a non-starter. I have considered the 'Mr Shifta' type mover before now.

I opted for a hand winch i push or reverse it as far as i can depends on how much traffic there is then winch it the rest of the way, think it cost about £30 its not quick but its not hard work either.

Helen, I've got one of those but it's only four hand power and the twin engines are getting knackered. The exhausts are making a funny noise too. We've tried spraying them with Ventolin but that's only good for another few feet. We need something for that last twenty yards.
