Sorry to state the glaringly obvious but it all depends on what you have. If not run of a 12v car battery or of a mains transformer (read battery charger) then all sorts could be utilised to give 12v for just the pump. Two 6v lantern batteries or a 12v motorcycle battery have both been used. A photo might help others identify the box structure as one or the other.
