Lucie and I visited the Devizes Camping and Caravanning Club site on the 13th-15th Jan 2012. The site is open all year round. Upon arrival at the site the Assistant Warden was super friendly, booked us in and even though it was fast approaching -1C helped us to get our Dandy 6 onto the pitch as it was dark.
This site is not actually in Devizes, but in the nearby village of Sells Green, next to the Kennet and Avon Canal and is generally well-tended, well laid out, flat and peaceful.
One point of note is that the sole toilet and shower block are closed between 10:30 and Noon for cleaning, but are well maintained and exceptionally clean. During this time the family room is opened for general use. The washing up area and laundry is located within the same toilet/shower block and is indoors.
There are plenty of walks straight from the site and good for bikes as well as the canal path is mostly flat. The site has a huge playing field for ball games, frisbies and kite flying etc. There is also a children's play area with a slide and swings, not far from the toilet/shower block.
The site is tree lined with mainly hard standing pitches. The pitches are incredibly spacious, easily room for the Dandy, awning, car and space to sit outside. The pitches are well spaced apart so you are not on top of each other. Beware – the hard standing pitches are very hard. The wardens insist that awnings are pitched on the gravel hard standing as well so don’t forget to pack some rock pegs!
The Reception Office keeps a small selection of essential items, including bread and eggs.
At night, there are rabbits that run around the site and if you are lucky, you can watch them bouncing around the place when you nip to the loo!!
We both thoroughly recommend this site and are definitely going back again soon.
