I dread John taking the dog a walk around a camp site on a Sunday evening when all of the weekend campers have left, he always comes back with something that has been left behind. He's like steptoe and our garage is bursting at the seams but over the years he has found tools, chairs, bbq's, spare windbreak poles and even tents and lots of other stuff. It's amazing what people throw away or leave behind on campsites. One site we go to saves all of the discarded tents that have nothing wrong with them and when there are 50 they call a charity to collect them, the ones that have damaged fly sheets he takes the poles out and when it's been a very windy night he goes around the site and offers these to anyone who has damaged poles.

Re: What people leave behind
recently some friends were camping and after it had rained, some people in a tent went home and left the tent - just a little pup tent. Nothing wrong with it so my friends now have a lovely play tent for their grandson in the garden

Re: What people leave behind
One of the campsites I use can be a bit informal in their arrangements. (You may have guessed which one)
Let us just say your not exactly been woken up at 07.30 if your not displaying a valid ticket for the previous night or indeed the coming one.
August bank holiday last year one of the campers from the weekend before had left their tent.
We all assumed he had left it because he was returning for the Bank Holiday Weekend.
The campsites owner was just of the opinion that he wished the camper had said something as he was not too fond of a tent on pitch for over a week as it does the grass no good.
It was a miserable weekend and one of our neighbours had their tent collapse.
Fortunately for a small donation to charity they gained an excellent replacement.
The tent had been abandoned and it wasn't some cheap festival special. It was a 6 or 8 man tent. One of the Kyham system type tents. I'm not saying it was a Kyham just it was of that type and reasonably well made.
Some people have too much money.

Re: What people leave behind
We were camping at another informal campsite, like the one Kevin has described, A large group turned up with all brand new stuff, and it wasn't cheap stuff. Night one stormy weather and wet, night two the majority of the group had packed up and left, night 3 the tent and majority of stuff including airbeds, sleeping bags and a bbq were abandoned. We were there for 2 weeks and made sure the tent was not going to blow away thinking they would come back, a friend of ours then stayed the next week and when we returned again at the weekend the tent was still there so we asked the farmer if he knew if they were coming back. He told us to take it if we wanted as they hadn't contacted him at all.
I think they tried it, hated it because of the weather (very nasty weather) and did a quick escape so couldn't be bothered packing anything away that they didn't intend to use again. It would have been nice of them to offer it to someone else on site but by all accounts they left the site in the middle of the night.

When camping in a VW it usually leaves its oil or rust behind

Re: What people leave behind
We did once find quite a few tools next to the hedge where a little red VW camper had been towed off site by a recovery service

Re: What people leave behind
We gained a chair and little cooker a few weeks ago, we also gained a chair last year, all items are very handy to leave in the classic car.
As for VW's leaking oil, ours doesn't, it just marks its spot.
We've never been towed from a campsite, we did make it from Cornwall to Devon, and got towed from there to home.

It did, and it's the only time we've been on the M6 toll, good value all round.

Lucky you weren't wearing flip flops or had bare feet.
