Jockey wheel

Someone has arrived on site and the jockey wheel is winding as it should but will not hold when the weight of the unit is on it, for now we have helped out with a jack but it's not ideal ....... are the threads gone meaning it's shot and needs replacing or is there something we are missing ?

No idea would think it needs replacing

It needed replacing the threads we're worn out.

The threads are shot but from a levelling or rolling to or from the vehicle perspective move the top tube as low down in the clamp as possible. Once you have raised it by taking the weight by whatever means and it will suffice.
Don't forget to remove completely (unclamp and remove) when pulling off the site. It's too much of a risk that the lower half will telescope off on the way home if it doesn't have to unwind.
Losing the lower half of jockey wheels isn't funny. I've done that one and was terrified what damage it may have done if I lost it on the motorway.

Thanks Kevin that's good advice for anyone who finds themselves with a dodgy jockey wheel, they managed to get hold of a new one and it's now fitted. They are in their 80's so it was probably the best thing for them even though a little pricey at the nearest place.
