Bowie sings "Peace On Earth" a specially written counterpoint to The Little drummer boy.

Not exactly contemporary but still poignant
Simon & Garfunkel Silent Night - 7 O'clock News
Don't know why I can't get this link to appear as a normal you tube link.
Go on give it a go it's especially worth listening to it if you don't know it.

Re: Christmas Songs
Ah the power of adverts.
This is doing quite well at the moment and may well end up being the Christmas number one.
Though not the greatest FGTH fan I would have to say that it reminded me of the tenderness of the lyrics below is the video as directed by Godley and Creme.
Unfortunately the vocal content isn't exactly as I remember I remember a stronger voice. It might be a poor mix on You Tube or that I remember the original mix see [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] So if you have the patience to listen to the below you dont get the Goodley and Creme video but you do get a stronger song. As a bonus you also get Chris Barrie (Rimmer and Mr Brittas)as both Mike Read and Ronald Reagan.
8th Dec and still not heard the Waitresses on radio yet this year. Oh the anticipation!

Seem to remember posting this and saying that the horn piece is sampled and used in another Christmas hit.
Non existent prizes not on offer for the person who posts it. Hint used in the biggest Christmas film of the 80's.
As for this I must have known it for years but a few years ago Craig Charles covered for Steve Wright in the run up to Christmas and reintroduced me to it. Cracking DJ is Craig Charles.
So no entrants for the sampled song contest. Well you can still do the film part what film is this used in

Re: Christmas Songs
So no interest in the Christmas film using Christmas In Hollis
Well all I can say then is "Yippie Ki-yay people who have an unnatural relationship with their mother"
Out for a meal with friends last Saturday for a traditional Christmas meal.
Next year will be 30 years when did I blink and all the years go by?
Finally got to hear The Waitresses on the jukebox.

Can't have Christmas without at least one King
Edited by Tow Itch. Reason. The nasty YouTube people removed the video, couldn't have that.

Re: Christmas Songs
No most definitely not Christmas Music.
On Friday BBC 4 had a Slade night.
The best band live I've ever seen and not too bad all in all. If all I can do is persuade you to watch the first 6 minutes of the film and you get to hear the theme song "How Does It Feel" then I reckon that should be enough to change some peoples mind about what Slade were. The film as a whole is far better than the rest of the early 70's band films.
Go on i-player is just waiting for you, you know you want to watch it.
Remember: Slade is for life not just for Christmas

Re: Christmas Songs
Yes it's Christmas songs.
I was having my haircut the other day and a conversation started about not hearing many Christmas songs on the radio and I had to agree. About the only one I'd heard was Mariah Carey and All I Want For Christmas Is You. About 3 times.
Actually I was quite happy, I don't like Christmas being served up too early. Things seemed to have moved on today heard much more Christmas stuff.
Don't know what to do show the story in chronological order or cut to the good stuff. I know I'll do it in order but you can cut to the good stuff then go back if you are interested.
Do you remember from last year?
Well no great surprise it has spawned a Christmas Album with the presumed "hit" being Rocking Around The Christmas Tree with Nik Kershaw
There is also a desperately forgettable version of Winter Wonderland with Rick Astley but then there is this brilliant Andrews Sisters like piece

Re: Christmas Songs
Don't know how I missed this last Christmas. I'm not sure if the song was actually released but it was a cracker, a real Christmas cracker (ouch)
This is the best mash up I've seen. I can't find the original Channel 4 programme but there is a clip from it to follow the song.
I'm Going Home or possibly It's Christmas, I'm Going Home
Bring Back The Christmas No 1 - I'm Going Home.

Surprised that this classic hasn't appeared previously -
I was also going to post the brilliant Denis Leary Christmas song, but on reflection it may be better to let the not easily offended find it themselves on YouTube

Think I found the D leary piece, I'd never heard of that.
Think I may insert an advert from Mr Leary on a semi seasonal theme.

Mrs P heard this on the radio the other morning. It made her chuckle, so we thought we would share it with you all.
