Re: The twitter thread
Old dog update. You may or may not know that the old dog has had a lump on his side for a few months now, the vets have been reluctant to remove it because of his age and heart condition, so we all decided to leave it be unless it started to bother him.
Well, Sunday last week, it really bothered him and started bleeding and things, so Monday morning the vets took him in to remove it, we all knew the risks - but it was now the right time!
At lunch time on Monday, the vets rang and said, "Can you collect your dog please? He's getting himself all worked up" Not only had he come through the op, but he had also recovered really quickly, the vet nurse has nicknamed him 'superdog'
We had the results back yesterday, and unfortunately, it's an aggressive type of cancer, his has been graded at the worst grade for that type, with a very high risk of it returning and not surviving from. The treatment is removal, which is obviously done, but whether he would cope again if if it returns remains to be seen.
So we're hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst, I think he is going to dictate our Christmas arrangements and bank balance.
He is a roller coaster dog this year, donations and sponsorship welcome.

We won't get another, he's dearer than our camper.
I'm pleased his insured, but the excess is still £90 and 20%
It's just a case of when really, with his pancreas and now this, which will it be? Or will the superdog last a few more years.

Re: The twitter thread
Our dog, tipper, has had chronic pancreatitis since she was ten but until a couple of weeks ago it only lasted a day or two.
Last Monday she deteriorated almost overnight and we couldn't get her pain under control so we dosed her up and took her for a walk and then had the vet put her to sleep. She is the last of a long line of pets we have had over the years and now we are feeling quite lost. It's too soon for another, but, maybe next year.
Camping won't be the same but, maybe we will do Europe.

Very upsetting,as you know its a case of balancing all the good years against the sadness you have now, think its 8 years since we lost our last one and no way would i have another now,we now take it for granted when we go out in the morning it doesn't matter when we come home.

Re: The twitter thread
Bailey is feeling better we can go get him the vet thinks he may have been drinking dirty water with bugs in it because of his symptoms.
Been sat here thinking and I think the vets probably spot on as Bailey likes to drink rain water.
Cazz hope bomff feels better soon.
Essie I am so sorry to hear about tipper, it's because we love them so much that we have to let them go when it's time.
Thinking of you x

Re: The twitter thread
We had a worrying weekend with the dog, he went in for IV fluids then he came home the following morning and seemed to be a little better but wasn't drinking or eating still. He went downhill again and had a fit ...... probably due to a very high temp and becoming dehydrated again so ended up back in the vets. He came home again yesterday afternoon and is feeling better, he is drinking but still off food. He's lost a 5th of his body weight but we're hoping that the antibiotics will start to make him feel well enough to eat soon.
Phone call from the vets this morning confirmed he has salmonella, caused by drinking from puddles. They can drink from thousands of puddles and be fine but he chose one with salmonella. It is transferable to humans so we have to be very careful so my house is very quiet with no one visiting ..... the peace and quiet is nice though.

Re: The twitter thread
Off to New York tomorrow, should be fun My daughter has decided to get married in Central Park, don't ask me why but she could have chosen a better time for it They have a perfectly good registry office in Warrington, it's a lot cheaper and not many hurricanes
My future son in law was going to run in the NY marathon tomorrow, but that is now cancelled which is a bit of a let down for him. They should have flown out on Tuesday from Manchester which was cancelled but managed to get on a flight from Heathrow today which would have just about got him in in time to register for the race. You can understand the people who have been badly hit by the storm wanting the race cancelled as it must divert effort from the recovery, but it is still disappointing for the estimated 20,000 overseas competitors
The wedding is not until Tuesday so hopefully things will have improved a bit by then and it will be

Re: The twitter thread
Old dog update. His cancer has already started to re grow, we knew it would, but perhaps not quite this quickly. The vet has put him back on steroids as this is the best treatment before a surgical route is considered.
We've decided to just let him do and eat what he wants - with in reason!!! until such times it bothers or affects him, then we'll have to do the right thing by him.
We really don't think it's right to put him through another op, hes still got his window from the last one, hes eye sight has deteriorated more and we have to lift him every time into the van and his pushchair now, well it's good exercise for me if nothing else.

Re: The twitter thread
As you know Cazz our old dog was in a similar position to Bomff and we made the same choice, we let him carry on until it affected him and then let him go I don't feel bad because surgery at his age seemed unfair ..... he was 17 when the sad day came so a good innings for a Shetland sheepdog.
Bailey is better after a course of antibiotics but I've never seen a dog go downhill so fast, he's lost that much weight that he has to be watched when he goes in the front garden because he fits through the railings now and trots off to see his buddy Buster. He's been brought back from the neighbours garden 3 times up to now

Re: The twitter thread
I'm very pleased Bailey is feeling better, it is scary how quickly they can decline, but it's also amazing how quickly they recover.
Bomff is all good, we can't ask for more from him, except perhaps better value.
Seriously though, hes had a fab long life, we just need to keep his last retirement days comfortable for him, whether that's weeks or months remains to be seen. This time I'm sure he won't perform another miracle.

Re: The twitter thread
every year the town has a fair night , stalls line the streets and the fair blazes in the car park always on the 10th Nov were you can get stocking fillers and Christmas gifts and tat that you don't need and avoid the sock's as one will be missing the foot and very few if no food stall's always used to save for the one event, putting up with the crowds pushing and shoving getting separated from your loved ones now and again but the past few years market stalls disappearing food stalls growing and tonight what a disappointment counted 10 market stalls all selling blankets for £20 and Lidl's are selling for £7.99 and the rest burger, curry, hot dog and other food stalls not much in the way for X-Mass so I suppose next year it should will be called burger night feel the modern way of thinking is killing our way of life and the little pleasure that we get from it and yep I live on the edge I brought socks ok the feet will have to take turns to keep warm
